Running the Windows version (Second Wind)

← About the game

"Second Wind" is hatcher's modern patch for the Windows version of ICR2 ("Windy" / CART Racing). It runs natively on modern systems, supports high resolution and widescreen, and modern controller input. This guide follows the tutorial by Golden Era Sim Racing.

This is a modern way to play — it wasn't available while the league was running in 2003–2007, when we launched the DOS game directly.

1. Download & install CART Racing

Second Wind requires the "CART Racing" 1.0.1 version of Indycar Racing II. Download it here and unzip the CART Racing folder to a directory of your choice, e.g. C:\CART.

2. Download "Second Wind"

Get hatcher's patch from grandprix2.racing: Windy gets a Second Wind. Take the Basic version for the original game, or the Wide version for higher resolution / widescreen. Unzip secondwind.exe and secondwind.hmm into the main CART folder.

3. Configure secondwind.cfg

Create a .cfg file with your settings (the changelog in the download lists every option). Typical settings for version 0.51:

Remove the // to enable a remap line (example config). Remap syntax:

joy_remapKey [key] [device] [button]
joy_remapAxis [device] [original axis] [new virtual axis]
joy_remapPov [key] [device] [pov axis] [axis min value] [axis max value]

Devices and axes are numbered from 0: the first controller is device 0 and its first axis is axis 0. In the Wide version vid_aspectRatio can be 4:3 (1280×960), 16:9 (1280×720) or 24:9 (1280×480 ultrawide).

4. Extras
